the company was founded in 1987, but it was not until 1995 that it had the first college graduate as an employee. before then, college graduates and technical secondary school graduates were assigned to government offices, public institutions, or state-owned enterprises. to work in a town-owned enterprise like dongyue was not called a decent job.
in 1995, the job assignment policy for the college graduates and technical secondary school graduates was changed. if you want to enter the ideal department, you must rely on relations ‘zou hou men’. zhao sufang came from the countryside, with no one to rely on, and still did not find a suitable job yet. seeing the concerned look of her families, zhao sufang could not wait any more, and she quietly went to the talent market in the county.
after wandering around the talent market for half a day, zhao sufang found that dongyue was also recruiting. she went over to ask for information. hr supervisor hu qingmin, who took charge of recruiting at that moment, persuaded zhao sufang to work at dongyue after he learned that zhao sufang graduated from tianjing university of finance and economics. he said to zhao, ‘ if you come to work at dongyue, you will become the first university graduate in this company, and you will definitely have a bright future here. and the workplace is quite near your home, so it will be very convenient for you to commute’
zhao sufang decided to give it a try, and came to work at dongyue. she and wang zhengyan were assigned to the import and export department which was newly founded, and the head of which was li shucai.
at the beginning, they are not familiar with the business here, and it was very hard to expand business scope. when zhao sufang and two other young fellows went to the canton fair at the first time, dongyue has no exhibition booth because it has little fame at that time. also, the two-hundred-yuan admission ticket seemed expensive to them. in order not to waste the ticket, she found the chemical products exhibition area, and handed out the leaflets to the passing customers. on this exhibition, she made acquaintance with an american trader. she only had one thought on her mind, and that was to make business with him no matter how. but the trader was reluctant to look at the brochure she gave to him, since she was young. zhao sufang asked him to have a look at it again and again. under zhao sufang’s insistence, this american trader stopped walking and carefully read through dongyue’s products. it was this hard-won ‘have a look’ that made this american company become dongyue’s high quality client for ages. every time the vice president of this company saw zhao sufang, he smilingly called her ‘have a look’ instead of her real name.
before long, zhao sufang began to assume the importing and exporting business of dongyue. in late april 2000, china refrigerant expo was held in shanghai. at that time, zhao sufang was pregnant for over eight months, but she determinedly caught the train to shanghai to attend the exhibition despite of her families’ objection. at the exhibition, she ran back and forth with her clumsy body, to make contact with each customer and to get information from one booth to another.
no pains, no gains. nowadays, zhao sufang has become the general manager of dongyue international trading company, and has led her ‘dream team’ to make the first record of over three billion annual exports in this industry.
the growth of zhao sufang is typical of the pioneering work of dongyue’s excellent university graduates. it is precisely because there are lots of dongyue staffs just like zhao sufang, having expertise, having knowledge and having passion that dongyue has made great accomplishments today. and at the meantime, these young fellows have realized their own life value at dongyue.
