one day before may 1st 1998, zhang jianhong got out the newspaper as usual. when browsing through china daily, he was attracted by an article called jingshang tsinghua. the article implied that professor zhu mingshan from tsinghua university made a breakthrough in the field of refrigerant replacement. it was only a very short paragraph and was very difficult to notice if you did not read carefully. zhang jianhong treasured it very much and he thought if dongyue seized this strategic opportunity, they probably would become an enterprise with discourse power, pricing power and standard-making power in the refrigerant industry.
on the next day, zhang jianhong hurried to tsinghua, beijing, and visited professor zhu mingshan who was working in the lab at that time. when zhang jianhong earnestly explained his intent of visiting, professor zhu mingshan shook his head regretfully and said that he had cooperated with others on the refrigerant program.
when zhang jianhong got back from beijing, the news that dongyue wanted to cooperate with tsinghua university spread instantly. the thought that a township company wants to cooperate with a first-class university was mocked. although the first meeting was not successful, zhang jianhong did not give up and he frequently travelled to beijing regardless of the outside taunt.
on a scorching hot noon, zhang jianhong arrived in beijing, and he did not remember how many times he had been there. the appointment was 2pm. but he and the chief engineer yu xiuyuan reached tsinghua university at 12, since he was afraid to be late because of traffic jam or other causes. professor zhu was on lunch break. there were still two hours before professor got back to work. yu xiuyuan said to zhang jianhong, ‘let’s call professor zhu now.’ zhang jinahong waved his hands and said, ‘it’s lunch break now. don't disturb him, and let’s wait for a while.’regardless of the hot weather, they sat on the school bench for two hours. after the lunch break, professor zhu came and met them who wereburned red. professor zhu was touched by them, and agreed to report to the department to go a field trip to dongyue.
on june 12rd 1998, professor zhu mingshan led a tsinghua investigation group (16 people in total) to do an investigation in dongyue. they were shocked by the field management and cultureconstruction. and they said that they were willing to cooperate with dongyue in the information industry, the environmental-protecting industry and other industries. on july 9th 1999, dongyue and tsinghua university officially signed the paper, established the dongyue tsinghua green new-tech limited company, and jointly developed environmental-protecting substitute products for refrigerants.
this cooperation started the new age of dongyue’s green refrigerants.
ofit, but it’s more like a free conversation about their friendship. in addition to the capital cooperation, what they have built is the spiritualcommunication and tacit understanding between fellows. maybe it was an accidental meeting, but since the day they met, they have been destined to experience ups and downs together.
the cooperation file between dongyue and macrolink was officially signed in kuala lumpur in one winter. dongyue chemical limited company was officially established. it changed from a township enterprise into a standard joint-stock company, and this belated but thorough system reform was what president zhang explored and fought for over four years. that day, president zhang felt being drunk for the first time in his life, and soundly slept for a whole day and night.
from the cooperation with macrolink group to landing the hk capital market, dongyue has transformed from a township enterprise to a modern one integrated with international market, and has successfully made the system breakthrough.
